It all Started with a Noob...

My name is Chris, and I co-founded Just Neat, LLC with Sol, one of my best friends from college... but let's take a step back. Once upon a time, I started a social media channel called Whiskey Noobs, where I did (and continue to do) whiskey reviews. I started off as a total newbie and spent a long time figuring out how to get good at tasting and reviewing whiskey. Eventually, it became apparent that blind tastings are THE MOST reliable way to get an unbiased opinion about a beverage, and I ended up doing them not only for the channel, but also for my own enjoyment. Finally, I had found an easy way to discover whiskeys that I could recommend to my friends, with full confidence that it wasn't my own brand-bias making me like them. The only drawback was that I constantly had to annoy my wife to label and mix-up a bunch of glasses for me, which got me thinking...

If only there was a way for me to do blind tastings by myself. As an engineer, this thought started a domino effect in my mind that I couldn't stop. It literally kept me up at night. After coming up with countless concepts (including some very wacky ones), I arrived at a rotating blind tasting device. I started making some prototypes...

And it very quickly became obvious that I needed some help. I called up one of the best engineers I knew a.k.a. Sol, and we got to work. We went through all sorts of ideas - how to locate the holsters, how to track which whiskey is which, and perhaps most importantly, how the heck we could manufacture it to be as cheap as possible. All of that work led us to our first product, which we called "Batch 1." A year and a half later, we made even more design improvements in order to come up with the second generation of our blind tasting device - the Just Neat Blind.

This batch is produced almost entirely with additive manufacturing in order to release a limited quantity at a very affordable price - just about the cost of a mid shelf bourbon.
